Sir Keith Stormer said: Many a time as a younger man I drove from South Yorkshire to Dorset, probably 4 or 5 times a year at as fast a speed as I could get away with, just wanted to get the journey over as quickly as possible. Now I plod along, might take an hour longer but it s far less stressful and what s an hour when you re going for a week or even a fortnight, I arrive in a far more relaxed frame of mind, it s just not worth it now, too many cameras and too much traffic on the road to bother, it s cheaper on fuel too.I'm much the same and the EV is a much more chilled drive. If paceometer

As PHers we all appreciate that different cars have different speeds at which they naturally favour running at as do drivers. Sometimes this all aligns with speed limits, sometimes it doesn't. And there is also the flow of the road that has an influence. Its down to the car too. We'd a A45 a few years back. It was immensely capable but you really had to be doing mental speeds in it to get any sort of satisfaction from the experience. The M2 OG... put a smile on my face at half the speed. Would have been just as fast or capable at the top end but was enormous fun.Same with my Cooper S. Maybe it depends on the extent to which you are driving for pleasure. I think that's what influences me more than anything else.I can remember needing to be careful about mpg and running costs and now I don't care about either. If I'm driving for anything other than fun on main roads, I'll drive the X5. The moment the journey is just about fun (I can't think of many situations when the purpose of journey would be mixed) I don't mind what car it is as long as it is a bit different and will engage me more.By way of example, I'm about to SORN an old Merc SL500 I've been using for the last month or two and drag out a 986 Boxster for what I hope will be a nice August. Very different cars but both provide engagement of a kind I don't think I'll ever get from any EV. We also have a Cooper S - I really can't be arsed with it despite it being perfectly competent. It represents faux fun for me, if that makes sense.Edited by Unreal on Friday 31st July 10:15
