My car was quite badly damaged in a public carpark. I was shopping when it happened. No witnesses that I could find, no note under the windscreen, no CCTV footage from any of the properties nearby.My insurers have paid for the repair, but I have had to pay the excess. They also classify it as a "(my) fault" claim as they cannot claim from anyone else's policy so that now presumably appears on my insurance record and has to be declared on renewal of other motor policies and could potentially affect future premiums. I have protected NCB on this policy, but that doesn't protect against premium ri

Yes that is right, and even if it had been a non-fault claim you would have still had to declare it on future insurance proposal forms.
