I also spend a fair bit of time cycling/running and a modern diesel is visibly bad for its emissions when the driver hoofs it. Modern JLR products are particularly easy to spot: when they overtake you I presume the emissions kit is allowed to switch off because you can see (and smell) the exhaust as they accelerate hard. Perhaps more noticeable for them as the engines spend more time working hard. A sim

Which is why this is all a tax primarily on the poor, as it usually ends up being. Which again is a form of blackmail to fore the poor onto public transport where they belong...The tax breaks on EVs are arguably a regressive tax, I suppose, but the rest of it is no different to the introduction of any tech: wealthier/higher income people get to enjoy it first, from foreign holidays to iphones to EVs. Already there are sensibly priced, low running cost used EVs out there though and the prices will keep dropping and the supply will keep expanding. On a longer term view, how can measures to encourage the take-up of more reliable cars with lower running costs and less dependence on foreign fuel sources be "a form of blackmail to fore the poor onto public transport where they belong" ? And EVs aren't even more expensive than ICE equivalents from new any more. Sensible example: Skoda Elroq is fractionally cheaper than Skoda Karoq for equivalent spec and performance. Slightly more premium example: BMW iX3 50 starts at £61k, X3 M50 starts at £73k ! (yes the M50 has better standard spec but not enough to cover that gap)I think you need to consider that the Tesla Model 3 was only available in 2017 and many would consider these as the first widely available EV. The average car ages is around 10-12 years so in availability terms few EV meet the budget sensitive masses needs. Spending £40K+ and hitting the VED threshold real keeps wise pockets shut. Hopefully the EU will force the UK to tax chinese car appropriately. Having repai

Regarding the biggest bill, I think I will still never ever get over the £800 oil filter housing gasket for my Gallardo or the £600 exhaust clamp (4 required!)
