The GLE Coupe has a special rung in hell as Mercedes looked at the dire X6 and instead of wincing/laughing decided to copy it. Let''s face it, there is utterly no point in an SUV Coupe. SUVs are supposed to be practical vehicles that can carry people and shed-loads of stuff easily. So why would you have an SUV Coupe. The U stands for "Utility". Killing the luggage space in the name of image is hardly utilitarian.

Either you haven't driven many bad cars or you drove one bad example. Which version?I get your point on the Fiat 500 though. We had one and quite liked it but it was a bit of a disappointing drive dynamically.I drove the limited edition one with the denim seats and a 1.9GTi and hated them both. The denim one was just 'soggy' in every respect - throttle, brakes, steering and the gearchange, which was like stirring yoghurt with a whisk. The 1.9GTi was just as horrible, but faster and with better steering. My Mother replaced her 91 River Metro 1.1S with a Peugeot 205 1.1 (with denim seats). The Rover was superior in every respect, especially when it came to performance (that K Series loved to Rev) and handling. The Rover Metro was indeed a decent-driving little car and I recall the motoring press really rating it at the time but the Peugeot 205 had been out for 7 years at this point, so you would expect the Rover to be better wouldn't you? If your mum replaced a 1991 Metro with a 205 then it would have been in its twilight years (an 8+ year old design at this point, I think the 205 stayed into production until 1995/1996?) and it was still fairly competitive ie not the best but still not the worst by this point, which is pretty impressive. Was the Metro/Rover 100 the worst car in its class 7 years after its launch? Probably and if not the worst, certainly towards the bottom. In evolutionary terms, that's like saying that the Metro is worse in every way than the Rover 200 (R3?) that came out towards the end of the 1990s, which it kind of was. Great little car the R3 Rover 200. I passed my test in '97 and would have loved one. If they had ditched the Metro/100 and marketed/priced it as a supermini rather than a Golf competitor then it probably would have been best in class.Superior in every respect to the 205 though? A neighbour had one of these and I used to love hearing him start it up in the morning (he also had a V Twin Buell which was even noisier). Top bloke.
