Over the last few weeks I've found and read this thread from start to finish. A great time to do so as it now shows a running car. I've always thought these were fantastic cars and can only imagine what the ownership experience is like - truly maddening I guess but the highlights must have massive reward. The memory of delays and difficulties will fade, the memory of Goodwood lawns will be permanent!Well done and thank you to @theadman for seeing it through, and for sharing it - I cannot think that if I had been in your situation it would have been such a well mannered thread!

So, a long overdue update (or maybe even updates).Veterans of this thread will know that many weeks of silence probably doesn't mean that I have happily driven off into the sunset!Having been out in the car with the children and shared a really significant 'moment', other aspects of life took over for a while. Spending time with my son and daughter took priority, whilst we were all in the same country, let alone the same hemisphere.Some time in August I decided it was time to take the car out again and put some more miles under its wheels. My reticence was based on its poor brakes. I am perfectly happy in my ability to drive to a car's capabilities, but you can't rely on other road users to do the same!So, I put my 'brave pants' on and drove the car out of storage only to find the clutch and brake pedals had become Siamese twins. Press one and the other would come out in sympathy. Definitely challenging to drive, but not impossible. Not something I was willing to risk, though. So, I tried to ease the mechanism with penetrating oil, but to no avail. This was odd, because a few weeks earlier the two pedals had been free enough to work independently. Now they were stuck and they resisted all attempts to free them.The only way forward was to remove the pedal box and see what was going on.With the pedal box out of the car, the problem became clear. The base of the brake pedal is a sleeve that sits around a rod attached to the clutch pedal. The sleeve and rod had siezed together, so there was no longer any free movement. No wonder the brakes had seemed so poor...the pedal was not fully actuating the hydraulic system when I'd driven the car previously!With the rod and sleeve cleaned up and lubricated, it was time to refit the pedal mechanism...but not without cleaning up the rest of it (this is obviously before, not after)!A quick test drive revealed the brakes were definitely improved. Unfortunately, it also revealed the next issue, even though it was less than half a mil
