By all accounts just not fast enough though.Yes, it was pretty much the same acceleration as the old GT86 up to UK legal speeds and that had the same thing levelled at it. Did come out well on the twisties or tight handling circuits. Quite a bit of disbelief from the Honda fans when TG’s Owen Mildenhall got it round Pembrey quicker than the DC2 Integra and Clio 172 Autocar tried it at Mireval Circuit and it managed to be faster than the contemporary MR2 and E46 330d More of a fun on the twisties car than a duelle
I think I struggle a bit with the comments about straight-line performance. I do get it to some extent, but also feel like we've become a bit obsessed with it at the expense of cars actually being genuinely enjoyable to drive. A case in point is that I sat in with a friend at a track evening at Snetterton yesterday. We were in his 2.7-litre 987 Boxster. It's not a particularly fast car in a straight line but, through the corners, it was monstering almost everything this side of the couple of GT3s and GT4s that were there. It just reinforced for me that, going fast in a straight line is fine, but the real fun is to be had in the corners, which makes cars like the FRP all the more appealing.JoshSm said: Can't imagine anyone even thinking about launching something like this these days. Not that they exactly managed to shift them at the time, AFAIK a lot of the parts never went onto cars and they even sold off the prototype bits and preproduction cars to improve the numbers. Though I do think the extra width of the S1600 makes it look better that the FRP. That said every wider version of the Puma did manage to look like it had been designed like that from the start, always a decent effort. Agreed. The standard Puma looks a bit too tall and narrow, the FRP looks better, but the S1600 just looks mega. It's weird that they did two different arch designs really!
