You couldn't find a more old fashioned bod than me, but times change and once we've been dragged kicking and screaming forward we often find it isn't so bad after all.Sold my 2005 Landcruiser, at my age i no longer wanted to be underneath every year doing all the maintenance and annual rustproofing reqd to keep such a vehicle in tip top condition.Bought a pre reg new model Prius PHEV of all things earlier in the year, which has huge amounts of tech and all the nannying systems you could shake a stick at, everything i swore never to have, but apart from brake servicing which i'll have to do because it appears no workshop has the faintest idea how to do this any more and its initial rustproofing which i did a month ago my under car antics are now over, thankfully.The icing on the cake is 95% of our running is on battery power from our solar array, my part time work commutes now costing less than a quarter of what they previously did and would cost even less on an EV tariff which we don't have because we make more selling at a high rate.Yes if my wife's noughties 2.5XT Forester (almost the same performance as the Prius) could return hundreds of mpg and cost £200 annual ved instead of £750ish then the Prius wouldn't have a look in, but we are where we are, fuel prices and supply is only going one way, the blame for which will be argued here till the cows come home, so yes modern and its efficiency is what this old bloke wants after all.The Prius is meant to be the last car but i know my wife well and if our two Golden Retrievers have a successful litter in a couple of years i can see one being kept, so i've already pencilled in the latest Rav4 PHEV now available in 2wd with 80 odd miles EV range as a replacement, by then the Forester VED will be knocking on towards £1000 so that will have to be scrapped as no one will want such vehicles.Costs are forcing us out of older designs.A mate used to say there was a market for old fashioned simple motors, and maybe in other co
