연료 페트콕 밸브를 사용하지 않을 때 'Off' 위치로 돌려야 하는 이유는 무엇인가?
처리 내용
오토바이는 전통적으로 연료 탱크가 캐뷰레터보다 높은 위치에 있어서 중력만으로 연료가 공급된다. 페트콕을 꺼두지 않으면 캐뷰레터의 플로트 밸브가 충분히 밀폐되지 않았을 경우 연료가 계속 흘러 캐뷰레터 볼을 넘쳐 흡입 트랙으로 흘러내릴 수 있다. 흡입 밸브가 열려있으면 실린더에 가솔린이 찰 수 있으며, 엔진 시동을 시도할 때 압축 불가능한 액체 가솔린으로 인해 심각한 수압 록(hydraulic lock)이 발생할 수 있다. 현대식 오토바이들은 여러 가지 방식으로 이를 개선했다: 진공식 페트콕(엔진이 꺼져 있으면 자동으로 차단), 캐뷰레터보다 낮은 위치에 탱크를 배치하여 연료 펌프 필요, 캐뷰레터와 플로트 제어 방식을 제거한 연료 분사 방식 도입 등이 있다.
