Morning all. The day after the night before, sadly we will not be enjoying London today - that will still happen but in 3/4 weeks time.I eventually got off the motorway around 4.00 because the Highways Agency had had enough of me being there and got their own truck to collect me and drop me at a service station. I then got an Uber home for 5.00 and the car was finally dropped back here at 10.00, some 14 hours after the actual breakdown. It was quite the rollercoaster of a night with the RAC changing their ETA time to collect me multiple times, then sending someone who did not take the car and went off (at 2.00am) and then arguing with the Highways Agency about whether I could leave the car there or not, whether they would actually pay the Highways Agency for their bit of the rescue and then finally calling me an Uber to come home. All of this and we were only 29 minutes away from the house.Oh, and we had the entire M25 stopped for us! A life achievement I’m not sure I’d ever hoped for..CaptainScarlet1967 said: Hopefully you got home not long after your post. Credit where credit is due - that's great to read about the service and follow-up of the Highways Agency. Nice to see something as nowadays rare yet iconic as a mk1 Ford Focus still on the road.I agree with your thinking about 'not being able to fault the car'. It's easy for many to think the worst of an old car whenever something goes wrong (I'm sure there'll have been people driving past doing that), when chances are it is capable of being repaired. Fingers crossed it was just limited to the radiator in the end and it'll be driveable again soon. Thank you, the Highways Agency have really impressed with the way they dealt with everything.Xenoous said: Sorry to hear about the breakdown. Hope you're safely back home and that it's a simple fix as I love those old foci! Thank you, I hope it is something simple too although am currently a little worried as it sounded like it was running on three when I started it

All due respect to the current Puma, which is a decent car that drives well, but there is only one in my eyes.I had a Mk1 Puma 1.7 in Moondust Silver when I was 21 as my daily car. I loved how it drove and went everywhere in it, and the car was sort of part of the reason my partner & I got together. I ended up selling it to move on to something else, as we usually do at that fickle age, but I've always hankered after another.I've viewed many Puma's that have promised to be amazing, only to be let down by predictable corrosion (a notable one being a 9k mile example a few years ago that had a fi

I've got my Phaeton with the 6HP to do soon, a bit more involved as a job, but it's already had a box and a torque converter in the last 50k, so it hasn't been left forever without maintenance - I've heard the 6HP19s seem to like to give trouble! It's my first torque converter auto (in 70 cars of manuals, and 1 DSG!)If I'd kept my old E320cdi I'd have certainly ended up getting the gearbox serviced. I bought it with 104k on

The Mk3 Astra and Cavalier are so similar (especially at the front) that only a true car nerd would know or care, but the Saab has an Astra rear beam, clear as day. The GTE's beam would fit right on for example, and the way the handbrake cables work are the same. A Cavalier sort of uses a single cable, Astra/ Saab uses one for each wheel. But then Saab added 5mm spacers each side at the rear, to make it the same as a Cavalier....It's very odd.Well I for one have learnt somethin
