증상

타이어에 금속 조각이 박혀 펑크가 발생했고, 정비사가 일반 패치 수리는 불가능하며 '핫 패치(hot patch)' 수리가 필요하다고 함.

처리 내용

핫 패치는 전통적인 타이어 수리 방식인 '가황(vulcanization)' 공정을 통해 이루어진다. 이 방식은 접착제로 패치를 붙이는 것이 아니라 화학적 또는 열적 방법으로 패치와 타이어를 용접하듯이 일체화시킨다. 화학적 공정은 두 가지 화학물질을 혼합하여 열을 발생시키거나 타이어 러버를 연화시키는 화학제를 사용한다. 열적 공정은 가열된 금속 철판을 사용한다. 패치는 고정되어 경화될 때까지 누르고 있어야 한다. 최종 결과는 일반 접착식 수리와 달리 패치와 타이어가 러버 용접 상태로 일체화되어 더 내구성 있는 수리가 된다. 타이어 가격 상승으로 이러한 수리 방식이 다시 인기를 얻고 있다.
