Every time there's talk of pensions you get loads of people saying how their uncle lived off cold beans for 40 years and went through bins for clothes so he could retire early, then dropped dead on the way home on his last day at work. And yes that does happen, but the fact is that even when you take the fatties, smokers and Glasweg
This is a true story. Not life advice, not judgement on how others spend their money, just a story of me and someone I know.We both graduated. He went and got a brand new BMW on some kind of finance, I went and spent £1000 that I had saved up from stacking shelves on a car I bought outright. his car was nicer than mine. But that money he was spending each month? I stuck it in the bank.I was good, I didn't go in for fancy clothes, or holidays, didn't smoke, and generally kept my costs down. After a year I sold my car for a teeny bit less than I paid and bought a nicer one with that money I had saved. Then I kept putting that money in the bank. He kept paying his finance deal.Another couple of years go by, my salary had increased as it does for new graduates, but I kept my lifestyle much the same. I didn't go out spending more money, but I did put more in the bank. I sold my car and I used the money i saved to buy a nicer one. My mate came to the end of his finance deal, but just rolled it onto a new one and got another new BMW.More years went by, more pay rises, and each time most of it ended up in the bank. By age 30 my mate still had a BMW, but I had gone from a Nissan Micra to an MX-5 to a VX-220 to a Porsche Boxster to an Aston Martin DB7, each one bought by selling the last one and topping up with that money which had been going into the bank. By this point I was earning a good salary, but not a vast one, just what would be expected of an engineering graduate with a few years under his belt. This pattern continued on-and-off. I did make some expensive purchases, like buying my first house, and having a child, but there was always something going into the car fund. The time between car upgrades went up from one year to several years, but they were always at least 8 years old and usually bought privately to minimise loss. 16 years after that Nissan Micra, and after my 3rd Aston Martin, I bought a Ferrari F430 purchased outright for approx the same as my annual sala

Some other manufacturers like Volvo and Mercedes were well known for them tooHowever, this evening I randomly found the following image of a Talbot Solaro, and it got me thinking about what other cars are there where headlight wipers were availableA few others that spring to mind:Any other obscure ones?

Priced at £5000 less with some stonking finance deals, it should have done better.....but was it just too expensive to build? The big gap between the outgoing cars and the new one is a good idea and possibly intentional to create the biggest possible impact. I think this is going to do very well indeed. I'm looking forward to it, and seeing my first one on the road. If they couldn't build cars well enough to compete with Audi, BMW, and Mercedes or lo

I've got my Phaeton with the 6HP to do soon, a bit more involved as a job, but it's already had a box and a torque converter in the last 50k, so it hasn't been left forever without maintenance - I've heard the 6HP19s seem to like to give trouble! It's my first torque converter auto (in 70 cars of manuals, and 1 DSG!)If I'd kept my old E320cdi I'd have certainly ended up getting the gearbox serviced. I bought it with 104k on

Been and collected it this lunchtime after another test drive and I read the codes whilst out & about and thankfully zero issues Will collect the 18" alloys & winter tyres ASAP and then sell the 403Ms off; they've just been refurbed but a) I don't like them that much, b) not a fan of black wheels at all and c) the RFTs are crap Parts already been ordered (OEM velour mats and M Sport grilles via Cotswolds BMW) and a full oil & filter change kit etcThe parts list will continue to grow haha
