증상
콤팩트 카에서 타이어 지름이 약 16% 더 크고 폭도 넓은 SUV로 변경했습니다. 아직 충분한 눈이 내리지 않아 큰 지름 타이어가 눈길에서 더 나은지 최종 판단을 내릴 수 없습니다. 하지만 큰 타이어 지름이 눈길에 도움이 된다고 생각합니다. 최소한 더 큰 타이어 지름으로 인해 차량의 지간(ground clearance)이 증가합니다. 그런데 '타이어가 차량 속도에 얼마나 영향을 미치는가'라는 질문의 한 답변에서 작은 타이어가 눈길에서 훌륭하다고 주장했습니다. 결국 어느 쪽이 맞습니까? 더 큰 타이어가 더 좋은가요?
처리 내용
좁은 타이어가 지면 압력(ground pressure) 때문에 눈길에서 더 좋습니다. 작은 접촉면(contact patch)은 지면 압력이 높다는 의미이며, 이는 타이어가 눈을 뚫고 노면에 닿을 확률이 높다는 뜻입니다. 접촉면의 크기는 폭, 지름(큰 타이어는 더 큰 접촉면을 가질 수 있음) 및 타이어 공기압(낮은 압력=더 큰 접촉면)에 따라 달라집니다. 일부 용도에는 큰 타이어가 사용됩니다. 깊은 눈길에서 사용하도록 설계된 차량은 지면 압력이 충분히 낮아서 차가 눈 위에 '뜨게' 되도록 하는 매우 큰(높고 넓은) 타이어를 장착합니다. 아이슬란드의 오프로드 차량에서 이를 볼 수 있습니다. 지간이 문제가 될 정도로 많은 눈이 내린다면 큰 스노우 타이어가 더 나을 수 있습니다. 하지만 대부분의 국가에서는 그 정도의 눈이 내리기 훨씬 전에 도로 제설을 시작하므로, 더 일반적인 노상 상황은 기껏해야 몇 cm 정도의 눈이 쌓인 경우이며, 이런 상황에서는 작은 타이어가 유리합니다.

Been and collected it this lunchtime after another test drive and I read the codes whilst out & about and thankfully zero issues Will collect the 18" alloys & winter tyres ASAP and then sell the 403Ms off; they've just been refurbed but a) I don't like them that much, b) not a fan of black wheels at all and c) the RFTs are crap Parts already been ordered (OEM velour mats and M Sport grilles via Cotswolds BMW) and a full oil & filter change kit etcThe parts list will continue to grow haha
