thanks, some great adviceinteresting, I knew it was long service intervals (this had a 15k and 20k interval before it needed a new motor) and the cold start etc but I hadn't realised it was oil dilution as well. So diluted oil that's 2 years and 20k old isn't going to do anyone favours. I've already had one big white puff of smoke which forums assure me is normal flat 6 behaviour and was after i moved it twice to get access to doors for stereo work, so engine was only on a few seconds. Phew, new month MOT, now 16 months ownership with so many niggles it was a nervy wait so a pass is a pass, just under 4000 miles this year, brief update1. Great cross-country hack, weird mechanical noise when parking, restarted a bag of spanners, major misfire….Took to the friendly specialist 1 hour away, basically, he’s like IT first-line support, anything beyond the obvious and he was panicking and clueless and told me it had 2 misfires on each bank and 1 cylinder fine on each bank. So all obvious faults ruled out, coils and sparks are less than 5k miles old. He didn’t charge me and suggested I go away (gave £50 goodwill)2. All good specialists are 6 weeks+ booked up, he diverted me away from a known parts cannon and put me in touch with a good small specialist a further 45 mins away. Decided a day out with the Chief took priority over a 6-8 hours wait for RAC (shall not renew) they were not happy with me driving there, in total over 100 miles on misfire, as I could have “washed” the cylinders etc. But to me it was okish hovering on light throttle at 3k rpm. Anyway, they replaced the varioram solenoid and all is well. They were much more pleasant on collection and laughed at some exhaust wadding that had been ejected due to the misfire. I was probably lucky, had oil & filter done as well. Also pointed out RMS had started leaking and advised to ignore it until the clutch starts slipping, my sort of advice. 3. Next up slow OS front puncture where old-school OEM Porsche pump got me home safely, as tyres are nudging 6 years old (loads of tread frustratingly) I waited until the wheels were dipped and powder coated as saved a couple £ on the fitting with some new Yokos.4. The arch guards clearly past their best! and after bodyshop declined a local PPF place who did it for £120, which considering a DIY kit is £50 and he said it was a bugger and much tougher than usual. He resorted to injecting glue through micro holes to try and dissolve old glue. So a bargain
