증상
엔진 시작 전에 기다려야 하는지에 대한 의문 - 사촌이 점화 스위치를 켜고 3초를 센 후 시동을 거는 습관에 대해 궁금함. 유체(정확히 어떤 유체인지 불명확)가 엔진에 충분히 채워질 시간을 주기 위한 것이라고 함. 예전 자동차는 키를 바로 돌려 시동을 걸면 가끔 시작 실패가 발생했으며, 지금도 몇 초 기다리는 것이 엔진에 더 좋다고 주장함.
처리 내용
대기가 필요한 자동차는 디젤 엔진 차량뿐입니다. 디젤은 글로우 플러그(glow plugs)가 연소실을 가열하기 위해 데워질 시간이 필요합니다. 현대식 연료 분사(fuel injected) 자동차는 시동 후에도 연료 압력을 유지합니다(보통 약 24시간 유지, 실제로는 차종에 따라 다름). 점화 스위치를 켜면 연료 펌프가 즉시 작동합니다. 기름은 엔진이 실제로 작동할 때까지 흐르지 않으므로, 기름이 흘러가기를 기다리면 3초보다 훨씬 길어집니다. 연료 분사 방식이 아닌 구형 자동차도 마찬가지로 문제없습니다. 많은 구형 비분사식 자동차는 엔진이 회전한 후에야 연료 압력이 전달되므로 기다릴 이유가 없습니다. 캐뷰레터(carburetor) 방식 자동차는 연료 보울(fuel bowl)에 연료가 남아있으므로 추가 대기가 필요하지 않습니다.
