Already cars younger than that are broken for their batteries and uneconomic to repair if accident damage or faults. Predicted EV Vehicle life expectancy is 16 years. Car lifespans take into account those that are written off which is why when you look around you see plenty of cars older than 15 years. If you were to remove early life write offs then the average age is close or greater than 20. As for EVs, between 2010 and 2020 just 100,000 EVs were sold, a

So with >60% of households having access to private parking this does give enough leeway for the first 50% of the entire car fleet as EVs just benefiting those households with the ability to home charge. This is partly why third party charger roll out has to lag EV adoption as few people switching to EVs over the next decade specifically need that infrastructure but also people forget that driveways with chargers can also be part of that third party charging infrastructure via parking rental apps. As seen in London where people with surplus parking can and are subletting via apps such as JustPark. My neighbour used to charge his EV 50 yards down the road from his flat on another neighbour's driveway, he'd just book it overnight once a week for a few quid. Likewise, commuters would book parking during the day, leaving their car on charge. The thing about selling electricity is that it is a wholly different business model to selling petrol. Electricity is ubiquitous across the U.K. and any parking that has power has the potential to be a vendor so the third party network will grow very, very differently to the petrol vending model which is about prime location and footfall. How many driveways in the U.K. are located where commuters and shoppers would like to park and where they're empty for key parts of the day? All of those locations can be monetised and massively undercut the likes of Ionity as the capex for the charger is pre sunk and the base unit cost of the electricity is a retail rate and retail VAT. This is why no one sees any financial return from street charging and most street charger units to date are loss making and paid for by taxpayers. People will use fast charger locations as little as possible and these will generally cluster like petrol station pumps at prime locations but most peop
