These were actually decent, stupid 3-door and even more stupid cabriolet excluded. My parents bought a really early one with the petrol engine and I drove it quite a lot - pretty comfy, looked decent for what it was, went okay etc. It was a proper head-turner when they first came out too. They had it a few years and it wasn't any trouble so they swapped it for an early facelift example. Weirdly, I never liked that one as much - cars usually improve over the life cycle, but to me this got worse. It had too many gears and the ride wasn't as nice, despite being on the same size 20" wheels. Its story ended when it got stolen anyway.Edit to say, it was actually not bad off road. In the interests of science (and without my parents knowledge ), I took their first one down some green lanes, through fords etc. and it ploughed right on through.
