These SUVs are no different to something like the deeply dull Jaecoo 7 or whatever it’s called, the only difference is the Europeans clearly had a bunch of engineers sat around with a tape measure giggling and thinking ‘what if’. Then somehow they persuaded management that stuffing a many litred multi cylindered engine into cars designed for crappy diesels and hybrids would actually sell more than a handful and could be a useful brand image booster.Turns out they were right. There’s a good few owners that have commented here, all with positivity. I’d love to join their gang. I’ve only had my first big SUV for a year (X5 phev) and the thought of it woofling and snorting and growling around with a 500bhp V8 makes me come over all funny.The industry problem comes with costs, as the Europeans can’t sell/dump SUVs for 27 pence like the Chinese takeovers can - if they could we’d all be leasing Maseratis and Jags instead.
