범프 스티어(Bump steer)는 스티어링 및 서스펜션 어셈블리의 길이 및/또는 각도 구성으로 인해 서스펜션 트래블 중 휠이 회전하는 현상입니다. 이는 스크럽 반지름 또는 아커만(Ackerman)과 별개의 문제입니다. 범프 스티어 특성이 좋지 않으면 아커만을 악화시키거나 최소한 일관성이 없어질 수 있습니다. 스티어링 암의 아웃보드 끝과 서스펜션 암의 끝이 풀 서스펜션 트래블 중 동일한 호(arc)를 그리도록 해야 합니다(또는 가능한 한 가깝게). 질문에 직접 답하면, 휠, 스페이서 또는 휠 오프셋은 범프 스티어에 영향을 미치지 않습니다. 스톡 서스펜션이 로워링되면 매우 범프 스티어에 취약한 닛산 240Z의 경우, 내측 끝에서 스티어링 암은 내측 서스펜션 암 피벗보다 약 4인치 높습니다. 아웃보드 끝에서는 거의 수평 평면에 있습니다. 서스펜션이 트래블을 통해 움직일 때 스티어링 암과 서스펜션 암의 아웃보드 끝이 서로 다른 곡선을 그리고 있어 스티어링 입력이 발생합니다.
