Wow, I've just taken a week or so to read through this build. Firstly amazing stuff OP. Love the way you've gone for it, and gone BIG! Inspiring.Secondly thanks for being so honest about it all. Seems like you have had more than your fair share of bad luck but I'm sure others wouldn't have been quite so truthful. I've never done anything on this scale but all the stuff I end up doing seems to take me ages and is always much harder than the "I can do that job in 10 mins on my drive in the rain" sentiment that seems to be the norm on the internet. I suspect such a mammoth undertaking is very rar
Actually forgot to update the thread last weekend but there were even more exciting updates! So as you would've read last time the car made oil pressure and was running.. sort of. It was misfiring, chucking out tons of smoke and running incredibly rich, it wouldn't idle and the haltech was throwing numerous Home position/Sync errors at me implying that it couldn't confirm the position of the engine as it could've sync the crank and cam signals.I found there to be a pretty big intake vacuum leak as well as exhaust leak so those wouldn't have helped at all and then after resolving both of those I went about changing the spark plugs as I found one had cracked and its terminal had bent. While fitting the new plugs however I found that a couple of them on the driver's side wouldn't thread in particularly well as you can see below:I imagine at some point the plugs that were left in the head had gotten knocked, cracking it and damaging the thread in the aluminium head. The other plug this seems to be happening on is the very last one, by far the hardest to reach and a bit of a pain in the ass to change so that's likely been damaged just from me being rough with it.However, I didn't want to pull the head back off at this point to fix the threads, it would've been nice to notice/deal with this sooner but ohwell! I instead looked at methods to clean the threads while the head was still on the engine and came across this "Back Tap" tool, which uses an expanding section so it can be inserted into the spark plug hole, expanded out and worked backwards to chase the thread from the good-part still inside the head.I figured it was worth a shot and gave it a go, the trick is to go in multiple passes and use plenty of grease on the threads, this obviously also helps to capture any rubbish that comes off but I found that the thread itself wasn't too bad, it was a bit loose overall and aside from a small couple of bits of metal the tool mostly pulled out strands of exhaust wrap that had

Toyed with doing this for ages! Hope you like it. Here goes... Before getting to my current cars, I always love the threads where people share their car history, so here's mine! Unfortunately I don't have pictures for all of them so I've pointed out where I've shamelessly borrowed from Google image search. Where possible the images are exactly as my cars were. So, first up...Nissan Micra K10 1.0 | 1985 | 50 BHP | 79 BHP per Ton | 0-60 in 13.6Image from GoogleHanded down from my older sister, this was my first car. Ghastly thing but made a change from all my peers who either drove Mk2 Fiestas o

Fantastic car to aquire. I've always admired these, it's a fantastic design and the interior is just brilliant. I was wondering which car was going to need your soon-to-be-aquired welding skills.

Without really looking for it, I am now the lucky owner of a 166:I wasn't looking for another car. Honest! But this was too good an opportunity to pass up...as it was free. Yes, free - but of course needs a fair amount of work.As you can see from my threads on PH I am fortunate to have a diverse fleet: some in storage, some away for long time work and a lucky rotation at home according to seasons and requirements. Coming up for 10 years ago I started my first thread in Reader's Cars on my 164, saved from the tail end of the scrappage scheme that cut a swathe through neo-classics. It started my
